Gothia Cup is a Certified Sustainable Event by Greentime. The certification was achieved following an audit during the ongoing Gothia Cup in Gothenburg.
– For us, sustainability issues are at the core of how we develop the event. The certification is a confirmation that we are doing many things right. It is also motivation to take new steps, says Niclas Freiholtz, Secretary General of Gothia Cup.

Gothia Cup creates experiences for life, experiences that give participants new friends from other countries and an understanding of different cultures through football. This year, the tournament in Gothenburg attracts 1,956 teams from 78 nations, with a total of 45,300 participants on site.
– As the world's largest international youth football tournament, Gothia Cup has a unique opportunity to influence and inspire. By being certified as a Sustainable Event by Greentime, the organizers demonstrate that sustainability can be a natural part of a world-class event. Gothia Cup sets an important standard for how future international sports events can be planned and executed, says Simon Strandvik, CEO, Greentime.

The tournament has gathered sustainability development around the concept Celebrate, divided into Celebrate the Planet, Celebrate the People, and Celebrate the Game.
– Celebrate has helped us make sustainability work a natural part of the tournament. Both for us as an organization and for all participants. We raise issues that are important and where we can actually make a difference, and the hope is that they take this home along with all the wonderful memories from the week, says Emelie Jacobsson, sustainability manager at Gothia Cup.
– This way, we not only become a more sustainable event, but we also have the opportunity to inspire and influence tens of thousands of young people from all over the world.
