On Monday, we gather the world of youth football in Gothenburg, Sweden, with the Opening Ceremony of Gothia Cup. More than 1700 teams, from 78 countries, will meet and share the joy of football during a week, but the twelve footballers from Wild Boars Football Club and their coach will be our absent guests of honour in this year’s tournament.
Gothia Cup is relieved to learn that the players and their coach are now safe and our thoughts and prayers are with them and their families.
As the world’s largest and most international youth football tournament, we have invited the Wild Boars Football Club to Gothia Cup 2019 and welcomes them as our special guests with all expenses covered. The world of football stands together and we want the players and their coaches to know that youth footballers all over the world are thinking of them and wishing them all the best. Gothia Cup would also love to visit them in Chiang Rai and help them prepare for the tournament in Sweden next year.
The Gothia Cup and Thai football has a strong connection. Every year a number of Thai teams take part in the event and as early as 1992 the Thamrong Thai was the first Thai team to become Gothia Cup champions. This year the clubs FC Bangkok and Southern Beach FC will represent Thailand in Gothia Cup. And for many years Gothia Cup ran a football school in Bangkok.
We wish the players from Wild Boars Football Club and their coach all a well recovery and we look forward to meeting you in the World Youth Cup next summer.
